Roll Out The Future

The TV you have been waiting for is coming. During the CES 2019 (Consumer Electronics Show), LG presented its latest innovation in the TV industry: the LG Signature Rollable 65R9 OLED TV. It's the first rollable television to ever be created and it looks stunning. With a simple touch of a button the 4K screen unrolls and then retracts from view when not needed.

The technology takes advantage of the inherent flexibility of the OLED panel to offer a 65-inch screen size. There are two different ways the panel can be viewed. The first is called the Full View option, which sees the screen completely unfolded and is used in standard TV mode. The second is the Line view, which reveals only the top quarter and can be used for music playback (with track and album information displayed), clock and weather info, and also photo frame duties. The Signature can also be used when it's fully retracted, in the so called Zero View mode, as a bluetooth speaker.

One slight disappointment with the screen is the absence of the 21:9 viewing option, which would have neatly removed the black bar issue for home cinema fans.

Overall the design of the product is outstanding and the quality of the picture is no different, it's the perfect addition to any living room. However, there is one slightly big downside: the price. There has been no confirmation yet, but the estimates for the price range between $15,000 to $50,000. So if you are thinking of buying one you might want to start saving up right this instance!
